Dronningen af Tearling/ The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

DSC_1177.jpg

Tak til People’sPress for bogen.

English version

All her life, Princess Kelsea has been hidden with her two foster parents far away from the kingdom. On her nineteenth birthday her mother’s lifeguards comes to bring her back to the castle, where she shall claim her throne. With her Kelsea has the Tearlingsapphire who has great powers. It will be a dangerous journey and Kelsea will need all the help she can get if she wants to complete her goal.

The protagonist of this book is Kelsea which is a princess. You could think that she would be a pretty, empty-headed goose who can’t think for herself. She was not at all! Kelsea was intelligent, fair, energetic and looked completely ordinary, she even weighted a little too much. I loved that the author had made the main character ordinary, instead of making her beautiful and graceful as I often think protagonists and princesses can be. It really think that the fact that she looks ordinary, makes it much easier to sympathize and identify with her, which is a huge plus for me.

But even though Kelsea was the main character, there were also some passages where the reader got a glimpse of some of the minor characters’ lives. I thought this worked really well and it was exciting to read about Kelsea’s uncle, the evil queen and even one of the gatekeepers. These passages were of varying length and content. It could be a scene from the person’s life, or just some thoughts they had and I really enjoyed reading them.

I have seen this book everywhere on Instagram and have been looking forward to read it. Unfortunately, I thought the book was a bit heavy to get through and it was only during the last hundred pages that I actually felt that it was exciting. But the story, however, was pretty good at the end, and although I didn’t love the book quite as much as I had hoped, I am excited to follow Kelsea and her fight for her kingdom in the next book.

Three words about the book:
Battels, challenges, unique protagonist.
